Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards Basketball Preview - 11-17-2024
The Pistons have won two out of their last three games and lead Washington Wizards by one game in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall 6-8 record. Although not known for high scoring offense, Detroit Pistons are playing strong on defense while also aggressively attacking offensive boards, averaging over 13 offensive rebounds per game over their past three outings.
On the other side of things, Washington Wizards have lost seven in a row to slip to 2-9 on the season. Their biggest issue has been on defense - currently ranking last among NBA teams in points allowed per game with 122 - as well as with opposing shooting (47.3% on floor and 37.2% of three-point attempts made against them).
I believe the Pistons to be superior on defense, so they should hold off the Wizards and pick up their third win of the season here. Cade Cunningham should have plenty of opportunities to matchup against some of the smaller Wizards players and should dominate his matchups against Jordan Poole and Carlton Carrington in the paint. He scored 33 points against them last time out and will likely play an instrumental role here as well despite recent back spasms; I still expect him to score his usual amount of points if he plays.
