Last week, Florida A&M amassed 225 yards rushing with two touchdowns by Le'Veon Moss and five receptions from Cyrus Allen in their win against Aggies. That kind of balance could prove essential should Florida's defense - which was poor against Miami in their season opener - fail to regain its form.
UF's offense has also been impressive so far in two games, led by quarterback Connor Weigman who completed 12-of-30 for 100 yards with two interceptions in its opener and then set a career high by throwing for three touchdowns against McNeese State last weekend. Weigman has also benefitted from an effective running game led by sophomore Montrell Johnson Jr rushing for 95 yards and two touchdowns so far while freshman Amari Daniels has added 75.
Florida's defense was improved against Miami, yet still poor enough to be overwhelmed at home. Of particular note was how much of Miami's production came through the air as Florida gave up 0.34 EPA per dropback against one of the nation's most powerful pass attacks.
Florida has suffered defensive struggles in four of its six SEC contests since 2011, which could explain its four consecutive losses against SEC opponents, with no sign of breaking this losing streak until Saturday against Texas A&M (despite recent defeats against Notre Dame and Samford). Florida may find an unlikely win difficult against this Texas Aggie team with such strong defensive talent - it seems unlikely Florida can beat them on Saturday either!
