Army will travel to Michie Stadium this Saturday night for a conference showdown against Rice Owls that should prove highly entertaining. Rice lost both games they've started this season against Sam Houston State and Texas Southern; Army remains undefeated following their win against FAU last weekend.
Rice University has struggled to score points over its last two games, averaging only 16 on average each game this season. Rice's offensive line has been an issue as EJ Warner was sacked on 11% of his pass attempts by opponents; on the other hand, Dean Connors has provided an effective running attack with 197 yards gained in 2016.
Defense could be the Owls' Achilles heel in this game. Their team has allowed an average of 24.7 points against per game while giving up big plays on both sides of the ball. Though they managed to force one turnover and secure three interceptions on defense, four fumbles have occurred while all fourth down attempts have been scored upon by opponents.
As they prepare to face Army in this game, the Owls hope to build on their defensive side of the ball and increase their run defense, something which has often been an issue when facing teams with explosive rushers. Furthermore, their goal must be to contain Army's passing game which may test their schematic soundness.
