Seton Hall, who were left out of the NCAA Tournament due to being from Big East Conference, have started off the NIT on a strong note by posting two victories at home and are undefeated so far in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). They play old-school Big East defense that's physical and aggressive - diving for loose balls, stealing passes, blocking shots as well as possessing one of the country's five-best three-point shooting defenses.
UNLV stands out as one of the nation's premier teams when it comes to preventing opponents from getting good shots by limiting turnovers and pressing. Furthermore, their advantage on the glass could make it hard for Seton Hall to score inside or near the rim.
This will be the first meeting between these teams since Seton Hall won 99-79 at Brendan Byrne Arena on December 11th 1994 under George Blaney, under current UNLV assistant coach Paul Westphal who previously led Seton Hall from 1992-95 as head coach.
The Rebels recently secured a 79-70 victory against Boston College Eagles in their second round game and shot nearly 50% from the field en route to victory. Keylan Boone and Kadary Richmond each scored 19 points during this win.
This NIT quarterfinal matchup has an over/under of 142.7 points, as UNLV's games this season have averaged 73.7 points on average and have gone over the total in 11 out of 23 as favorites of 4.5 points or more. Seton Hall teams have underperformed in comparison, yet have shown signs of improvement recently.
