On Monday evening, UNC Greensboro welcomes Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). Under four-year head coach Mike Jones' tutelage, they went 21-11 overall last season and 12-6 in Conference play - two impressive marks.
The team excelled on its home court by going 11-3 and outscoring opponents by 7.7 points per game while only conceding 71.1. Donovan Atwell led them with averaged 11.2 points while shooting 45% from the field - earning All-SoCon First Team honors and becoming All-Conference MVP honoree in 2016.
UNCG welcomes back three juniors Darren Williams, Malik Henry and Rahmir Barno this season; these four collectively recorded 76 assists and 11.5 steals last season, with Williams leading his squad as rebounder. UNCG will also welcome in three new faces in Jack Reddick (Eddyville Kentucky), BB Washington (Philadelphia Pennsylvania), and Evan Barlow (Morton Illinois).
FGCU posted 14-18 last season and was picked to finish sixth in both the ASUN Coaches Poll and Media Poll for this season. Six players are back for FGCU this year, including ASUN Preseason All-Conference selection Keeshawn Kellman of Allentown, Pennsylvania who connected on an impressive 79 3-pointers while shooting an amazing 391% from long range last season; Kellman also earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Year honors! Also returning are sophomore Blaise Vespe and juniors Xavier Pina and Brandon Dwyer for further reinforcement of this talented roster.
